SHROVE TUESDAY

 

Our Lenten and Holy Season activities begin with a celebration of Shrove Tuesday. The Progressive Adults Ministry hosts a Sunday Brunch on February 15 after the worship service. Shrove Tuesday, on February 17, is the feast day before the start of Lent on Ash Wednesday. A pancake supper has been a Nineteenth Street tradition for more than 30 years. All attending the Sunday worship service are invited to partake.

 


LENTEN WORSHIP SERVICES


Join us at noon Wednesdays for virtual services during this time of reflection, repentance, and preparation for Resurrection Sunday. The worship services take place on Zoom, lasting one hour. Dates and speakers this year are:

Worship: Join Nineteenth Street Baptist Church on Sunday, August 30, at 10 a.m. as we praise God for 187 years of history and grace, dating to our founding on August 29, 1839 as First Colored Baptist Church in Washington.

 

Rev. Dr. Elaine M. Flake, Senior Pastor Emerita of Greater Allen A.M.E. Cathedral of New York, will bring a Word from the Lord to inspire and sustain us. During our service, we will recognize some of our faithful members and ministries that have contributed to the legacy of our congregation.

 

Homecoming: On this day, we also will celebrate Homecoming Sunday as we welcome former members and friends back to Nineteenth Street. After the worship service, we will gather in the Wyatt A. James Fellowship Hall for our annual fellowship meal featuring refreshments provided by various church ministries and organized by the Missionary Society. Join us as we celebrate our connections and make new ones.


Giving: As we honor our past, we also look to the future that God calls us to build. To help us build that future, we prayerfully ask all church members and friends of Nineteenth Street to make a special anniversary gift of $187 in August.
