Food Pantry & Clothes Closet

In the spirit of the gospel of Jesus Christ, our Food Pantry and our Clothes Closet provide sustenance, assistance, and spiritual guidance to those in need.
The pantry and closet are open to all twice a month—on the second and fourth Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.—except when the schedule is shifted for holidays. Distribution takes place in the church’s fellowship hall.
The Food Pantry Ministry, which began in 1982, gives out free bags and boxes of groceries containing a variety of items. Church members provide financial support to purchase food, donate supplies, and volunteer as pantry staff. In addition, the Capital Area Food Bank provides canned goods, packaged goods, and frozen meats for a discounted cost or no cost to the church.
The Clothes Closet was started in July 2022 by the Jarvis Memorial Club to provide free clothing to local residents. Church members, family and friends donate gently used clean or new clothes for distribution. The club welcomes volunteers who can help sort, fold, and hang clothing.
Those who seek help can call the office at 202-829-2773. Those who are interested in supporting the pantry can leave a message for co-chairs Angela Griffin and Cynthia Thompson, or Deacon Board liaison Sandra LeSesne. Those who want to support the closet can leave a message for Deacon Sandra Keaton Brown, president of the Jarvis Memorial Club.
For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me.
(Matthew 25:35-36, NIV)
